當時正處於越戰末期，

到越南打戰常聽到親戚、朋友、同學在越南死亡，

整個社會人心惶惶，氣氛低迷。

Armstrong以其渾然天成，厚重沙啞的嗓音唱出這首歌，

配上電影裡砲火不斷、斷肢殘臂四處橫飛的血猩場面，

就像吳宇森導演的變臉裡的槍戰場面，

藉此對越戰形成了反諷的效果。
